EARTH CELEBRATION CHANNEL

Earth Celebration 2020 will be held entirely online in real time! We’ll be streaming the festival’s content live on “Earth Celebration Channel,” so please join us from your corner of the world. The slogan for EC 2020 is “Connect with the World on Sado Island” and we’ve set a unique theme for each day of the festival, too. DAY 1—KODO

Tune in for a day full of performances and talks by members of Kodo! The ensemble is preparing an eclectic array of mini concerts and talk programs to broadcast from Kodo Village, their base on Sado Island.

DAY 2—SADO

Join the Kodo members for a tour around Sado Island! They are planning scenic drives with fun banter, visits to tourist spots, mini performances in some of their favorite places, and more.

DAY 3—EARTH

On the final day of the festival, we want everyone to feel the deep connections EC fosters every year—as we celebrate the Earth together, united through Kodo and taiko on Sado Island.

For the first time ever, all EC workshops will be held online!

Dance WS "Dance to 'Shunpuu' with Chieko"

Get ready to move to Kodo One Earth Music track “Shunpuu” with Kodo’s queen of dance, Chieko Kojima. Let the lively taiko beats and flutes whisk you away into Chieko’s feel-good world of dance.

Discovery WS "Sound & Connection with Sammy"

Join Kodo members Masami Miyazaki (a.k.a. Sammy) and Jun Jidai for a workshop with a twist. This is an opportunity to meet new people, discover new sides to taiko, and create a one-of-a-kind song together!

Dance WS “Kami-umezu Onidaiko”

Onidaiko, which literally translates as “demon drumming,” is one of Sado Island’s iconic, beloved folk traditions. It’s a special opportunity to connect with people on Sado Island, throughout Japan, and around the world online to learn and enjoy a unique folk art together.

Taiko WS "Roland Electronic Taiko—TAIKO-1 Workshop"

EC is excited to host an online workshop using TAIKO-1. Sign up for a special opportunity to learn performance techniques for playing katsugi taiko and the different ways to play an electronic taiko with instructors Reo Kitabayashi and Mizuki Yoneyama, the Kodo members featured in the demo performance videos on Roland’s TAIKO-1 website.

This year marks Earth Celebration’s 33rd year in running. With the event being held online this year, we are using this opportunity to share some of the memories from previous years. The EC Shiroyama Concerts may bring flashbacks to those long-time EC fans. There will also be footage of the newer EC atmosphere at the Harbour Market Concerts as well as traditional fold art from Sado Island and message videos from past EC guests!

Online Exhibition : "Living, Learning and Creating - 2020"

Every year, the ‘Living, Learning and Creating’ Exhibition appears in the town of Ogi during the duration of EC. This year, we are bringing the exhibition online, where you will be able to enjoy various hand-made instruments and crafts created by Kodo members and staff.
